Rachel Bade-McMurphy Rachel Bade-McMurphy

Jazz music is timeless. Its creation roots back to the beginning of human suffering, but its sound was born out of hope and the longing for a better future. Like a diamond made from coal, the pressures are what determines its beauty and possibility. No jazz singer was ever borne into an easy chair, but the positive result of singing through circumstance is what makes possible the gift of music. With a strong appreciation and studious regard for traditions of the past , and an ever stretching interest towards innovation of the future Rachel Bade-McMurphy embodies a unique yet inviting interpretation of song. As a composer and lyricist she welcomes visitors into a universe inhabited by individual experience to share in the emotion, beauty, humor, pain and awe of life. Rachel was twice chosen as "outstanding college vocal soloist" at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, was chosen to participate in IAJE's Sisters in Jazz mentor program in 2004, and has written background music to emmy-nominated promotional spots for KHQ-Q6 of Spokane.
